The Fraunhofer Center for Sensor-Intelligence ZSI is a joint strategic R&D initiative of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V. and the state of Saarland. As the main port of call, Fraunhofer ZSI serves to strengthen research and science across the greater Saarland region for the benefit of both industry and society. Fraunhofer ZSI plays a crucial role in Saarland’s strategy for research and development. The emerging expertise and research field is being established by the Fraunhofer IBMT and IZFP institutes to strengthen innovation in the field of sensor-intelligence-devices (SID).
The work of Fraunhofer ZSI is oriented toward the future fields and challenges of the structural transformation of industry and society, especially in the context of digitalization. It addresses the relevant areas of research policy that Saarland and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft are focused on with the aim of accelerating the transfer of scientific developments for use in industry. The Fraunhofer ZSI is supported by the Fraunhofer Sensor-Intelligence High-Performance Center.
The Fraunhofer ZSI develops next-generation sensor systems with AI features for applications in material testing, production processes, bioprocesses and healthcare. Throughout this process, everything from data collection up to analysis and evaluation is within the scope of the R&D. For the first time, sensors and sensor systems are being employed, which independently make decisions in real time on-site, and which control processes within a defined scope. The holistic, integrated approach contributes to the development of innovative application systems alongside partners from science and industry. This enables them to add to and upgrade their products at a later phase.
